Creating a Facebook Network for IIT

Hello Guys,

I think all of us have an account in Facebook. And in our account currently we are using "University of Dhaka" as our network name. Now it's true that we are the student if Dhaka University, but we have a more specific identity too. That we are the student of IIT and we are IITians. I think all of you would be happy if you can specify this identity in the network name of your Facebook profile. That means we want to write name of network as "Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka" (the university of Dhaka is for specification, as their are a number of institute in same name).

I heard from Alim that earlier it was tried to create a network with this name. But i think their were some problem in that procedure. So I think now the procedure is needed to be clear to all for create a network.

To open new network a number of requests are needed to send to Facebook. So if we want to create, all of us should send a request to Facebook.

Procedure of Request

we need to send an email from our IIT's mail address to networkrequest@fb.com requesting a new network. The mail will consist of the following information.

1. Full name of your school
2. City
3. State, country
4. Your school’s website
5. Whether your school provides email addresses to students (yes or no)
6. Your graduation year
7. Your Facebook Login Email Address

Example

Here is copy of mine that i have sent

1. Name of Institute: Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka
2. Location: Dhaka
3. Country: Bangladesh
4. Website: http://iit.univdhaka.edu/
5. Availability of College Email Address: yes
6. Passing Year of Graduation: 2012
7. My Login Email Address: dhrubo.1115@gmail.com

and i have sent it from bit0120@iit.du.ac.bd

Now it's your turn. I hope that all of you will send request to create our own network.

Yeah, we are supposed to do that once we get enough students. But... did the 2nd batch get their email addresses?

if this will it will be really an amazing thing.
but, I have a suggestion related to it, that is beside IIT network there should be the name of DU, because most of the people are unaware about IIT and it's identity.

Nice initiative. But I think all the students of IIT don't have a mail address like 1st batch guys. So at first we should figure this out.

Inititative টা আমি আর সাক্ষর নিতে গিয়ে দেখছিলাম আমাগো তখনো institute এর email address নাই। তখন আমাদের yahoo group টা যেটা দিয়ে register করা, (iit-du দিয়ে শুরু) সেটা দিয়ে পাঠাইছিলাম। ব্যাটারা পাত্তাই দেয় নাই! :/

Absolutely right.

I think BIT02 and BIT03 should first secure their email address from IIT.
I have a question though. Do we have to urge ourselves for it? Or just contact with - may be Sakib sir/Kabir sir??

The idea is always a good one.

Any batch should get their email address by the end of first year. It is my personal opinion. And you should take initiative, but we don't know with whom you should talk. Ours was given by Jewel sir, and he gave it as a surprise.

You may directly contact with Joarder sir as he is our present Director. Or you may wait for a while. We (1st batch) are going to submit the same request (all IIT students having mail address at iit.du.ac.bd domain) soon.
