system cleaning in Ubuntu
well, ubuntu also has got some blots inside its system, we need to clean it like we used to clean in windows......
here are some ways.....
1. go to synaptic package manager, click status, and then click not installed (residual config), then select them for complete removal and apply.
2.open terminal and write "sudo apt-get autoclean". it will clean all unused temporary and local data
3. open terminal and write "sudo apt-get install localepurge". it will remove all unnecessary used data after we install software from terminal by apt-get
4.if we want to remove orphaned packages (packages which are not in dependency tree of any installed software packages), install deborphan by writing in the terminal
"sudo apt-get install deborphan". after installing it, u may write in the terminal
"sudo deborphan | xargs sudo apt-get -y remove --purge", it will remove all orphaned packages
5.if u wanna do this in graphical mode, install gtkorphan by "sudo apt-get install gtkorphan", after installing, u may find it in SYSTEM > ADMINISTRATION >> REMOVE ORPHAN PACKAGES
6.here is an another software named wajig, install it by "sudo apt-get install wajig", then open the terminal, write "sudo gjig".

Does not these commands actually empty the /var/cache/apt folder?
Re: system cleaning in Ubuntu
localpurge will clean those junks created during install and uninstall processess, concept about autoclean is not so clear.. btw.. plz post more effective cleaning mechanism.... if u know.... ubuntu signficantly creates lots of junks... though we r not aware of them....
