get ubuntu back after re-installing windows..........
after a long pause i am posting a topic in this forum, hope this will help you.
many of us dual boot windows and ubuntu. problem happens after reinstalling windows. we can't find ubuntu in the os choice menu during boot.
we all know that, grub is the boot loader for ubuntu. the os choice menu we see is actually the grub menu. during installing windows boot sector of our pc is rewritten. so, the grub is deleted and we don't see the os choice menu at the time of boot. some of us may think ubuntu is deleted from the hard disc. but this is not like that.
now, what will we do to solve the problem?????
the answer is simple. install the grub(ubuntu boot loader).
follow the instructions given below to install grub-
First
step- boot Ubuntu using the Ubuntu cd/dvd on the option LIVE
CD ( The option name is "Try ubuntu whitout any modification to
your system")
second step-- Open
a Terminal.....
third step---
Type in "sudo grub" press enter
Type
in "find /boot/grub/stage1" press
enter
(This will return a location [example- (hd0,1)])
\|/ U will need that info here \|/
Type in "root (hd?,?)"
press enter
Type in "setup
(hd0)" press enter
Type in
"quit" press enter
fourth
step---- Reboot... don't forget to remove the cd from your cd
drive !!!!
before doing this you have to make sure some certain things.
1. you installed ubuntu outside windows. that means you created a different partition for ubuntu and installed it there.
2. you have the cd/dvd of the same version installed in your pc.
enjoy LINUXing...
