Netspeed:
I found this software today and liked it immediately after installing. Lightweight, Cool GUI, and free. What else you want from a simple bandwidth monitor?

Install it using
Code:
sudo apt-get install netspeed
command

note: You will probably fail to find it in the applications panel. To use it, simply right click on panel, select add to panel, then type netspeed, press enter. And you are ready to go!

Bmon:

This is basically a text based (ASCII) GUI for monitoring network activity.
you can find it in software center. Being lightweight and precise, if you are ASCII design fan, this is for you.

there are several others, but after finding netspeed, I am not interested in those Razz

Enjoy the softwares, Enjoy Ubuntu Cool!

Best Choice according to me is

Using Color BandWidth Monitor

It is a simple program that runs in terminal Smile it shows Data usage in bytes or bits.
To install, type:

Code:
sudo apt-get install cbm

and to run it, simply type
Code:
cbm
in terminal Very Happy

Post by BIT0201-farhan Mon Oct 25, 2010 1:32 pm

hi every one,
Today i'm going to describe how to install a network meter in ubuntu.
There are like 22 bandwidth monitoring tools...Among them bmon(supposed to be bandwidth monitor) is my personal choice.
let's install it..........

Install bmon in Ubuntu

Code:
sudo apt-get install bmon

This will complete the installation.

If you want to open the application you need to enter the following command
Code:
bmon

you should see the following output

Topic merged.
Farhan's " Installing network meter in ubuntu" topic is same as the title topic here.
So, I have merged it with Amit's title topic.

When you press the + button, you vote.
When you say rep++, it means you are telling the user that you liked it Smile

We don't know who voted unless they declare.
