3rd batch Orientation issue and session topics

After several discussions with Kabir sir,2nd batch students,BIT0122-Amit and BIT0129-Tabassum, i make a list of orientation session activities of 3rd batch. More proposal can be added here but of course within tomorrow 12.00 am. We have three days to implement the tasks. From 24-26 January. Here's the tasks to do:

1.Presentation on Success of noble persons of the world- Why and How(will be presented by one of the teachers, i propose Kabir Sir)
2. Movie show(proposal requested)
3. Presentation from 3 BIT'ans.(I request Amit bhai to select the topic though Kabir sir proposed to have three categories: Curricular, Co-curricular, Extra-curricular)
4. Funny debate(i request tabassum apu to describe how it should be)
5. Speech from the new comers: (i) At the early stage of the orientation session(introducing themselves) (ii) End of the sessions(their feelings)
6. Group activities: (i) ice-breaking session (ii) group working(to develop group activities)
7. Fundamental knowledge on Computer(will be taken by one of the teachers, i propose Tahrima madam)
8. Inspiration speech to make them to dream to be the best of the world(will be delivered by one of the teachers, i propose Sakib sir)
9. Life in IIT(i am confused where i will be any presentation or any general discussion)

ইয়ে, শিক্ষকরা কে কি করবেন এটা উনারা ঠিক করলেই কি ভালো হতো না?

যেমন প্রাথমিক কম্পিউটার শিক্ষা, তারপরে inspirational speech ... এগুলো কে কি দেবেন তা স্যাররাই ঠিক করুক, আমরা তাদের হাতেই এসব ছেড়ে দেই।

funny debate এর ব্যাপারে তো আমার একদম ভেটো দিতে ইচ্ছা করছে। মানে, এসব আমার কাছে কোনকালেই ভাল্লাগে নাই। নতুন কারো কাছে ভালো লাগে বলে শুনিও নাই। ডিবেটার ভাইরা ও বোনেরা, রাগ করোনা। আমিও ডিবেট করেছি। তারপরেও যেটা আমার চিন্তা সেটা বলেছি।

presentation এর ব্যাপারে আমার মতামত হলো সেটা ছাত্র বা শিক্ষক যেই দিক, তা হওয়া উচিত আমাদের তিনটা core value. professionalism, excellence, respect এর ব্যাপারে। IIT এর নিজের এগুলো মনে করা এবং মনে রাখা উচিত অন্যদের শিখানোর পাশাপাশি। এখন সবচাইতে ভালো সময় মনে করিয়ে দেবার।

পুরো IIT এর কার্যক্রম কে ভাগই করা যায় curricular, co curricular and extra curricular এ। কাজেই এসবই আসবে বলে ধরে নেয়া যায়। আর কিছু তো মাথায় আসছে না। আর তাই যদি হয়, তাহলে তা life at/in IIT টাই তো হয়ে গেল।

আর আমার ব্যক্তিগত মতামত হলো presentation সহ যাবতীয় কাজ কারবার এবার BIT 2nd batch করুক।

হু, শুনে অনেকে চমকে উঠবে।
আমরাও চমকেছিলাম।

অনেকের মতামত হবে BIT1st+2nd batch মিলে এসব করতে।
আমার মতামত হলো আমাদের উচিত তাদের ক্ষমতায় আস্থা আনা।

অনেকের পছন্দ হয়তো হবে না।
তারপরেও আমরা করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছিলাম।

আপনার সাথে একমত। তাহলে শিক্ষকদের টপিকগুলো কবির স্যার কে দেয়া হবে। উনি অন্য শিক্ষকদের সাথে আলোচনা করবেন।

funny debate- এই আইডিয়া টা প্রথমে আমার ছিলো কিন্তু পরে অন্য একজন সেটার ব্যাপারে আগ্রহ দেখিয়েছিলো। তাই এটা রাখা হয়েছিল। আসলে এটা নতুনদের দিয়ে কিছু করানো হবে এমন টপিক এর মধ্য রাখার পরামর্শ এসেছিলো। যদিও এই আইডিয়া টা আমার একদম পছন্দ হয়নি। যা হোক একজনের পরামর্শ এসেছিলো। খুব বেশি যুক্তিযুক্ত পরামর্শ না আসলে এটা বাদ যাবে।

group activity টা সম্পূর্ণ নতুনদের অংশগ্রহনে করা হবে। এখানে এমন কিছু কাজ থাকবে যা group করে সম্পন্ন করা যায়। ice-breaking session টা হলো group ভিত্তিক একটা খেলা।

ঠিক, তবে BIT 1st batch-এর মধ্য হতে একজনকে এখানে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা হবে।

Movie selection এর জন্য কিছু movie এর নাম propose করার জন্য সবাইকে অনুরোধ করা হলো।

হাবিবের সাথে দুপুরে কথা বলে যা চিন্তা করেছিলাম তার সাথে আপাতত কিছু যোগ করতে পারছিনা বাজে মাথা ব্যাথার জন্য

Einstein and Eddington movie টা দেখা যায়। অসম্ভব সুন্দর না হলেও বেশ ভালো। কিছু কারনে যদিও আমি এর সপক্ষে ১০০ ভাগ মত দিবনা, তবুও এটা ভাবা যায় যেহেতু ২জন scientist এর গল্প আছে এতে

Funny debate .. ব এ কার দ , বাদ। এইটা মানেই হলো, নতুণদের সামনে নিজেদের হালকা করে তুলা।
সেকেন্ডলি, আসিফ প্রেজেন্টেশান দিবে না?

I think the funny debate part should be skipped. Its not a stage show or something like that, its an orientation.

Other points are quit interesting and good.

Both are very inspirational. And I also agree about them being included in orientation.

After a long discussion with amit bhai we have distributed the tasks in different sessions, where we have three days with six sessions two in a day. We have also finalize the topics. Lets see how it is:

24-01-2011(Monday):
1st session: Start of the orientation and introductory speech from new comers.
2nd session: rest of the introductory session(if need) + Fundamental knowledge on computer.

25-01-2011(Tuesday):
1st session: Inspiration speech +English section.
2nd session: Movie show

26-01-2010(Wednesday):
1st session: Presentation from BIT'ans(Asif Imran Anik, Mehadi Mahfuz, Tuhfatur ridwan supta) + Group activity session by new comers
2nd session: Comment on the orientation session from the new comers+Movie show.

নাম দুইটা শুনে মনে হচ্ছে ভালো হবে। কাহিনর সারাংশ টা শুনে আরো ভালো লাগলো। দেখতে হবে।

ওহ Steve Job's এর speech এর কথাটা তো ভুলেই গিয়েছিলাম।
ঐটাও add করা হবে।

1. drop the debate part. orientation ke funny bananor dorkar nai... ami apnader sahte orientation nie kono fun korinai.. but shob shomoi ekta funny mode e chilam, jate boring na lage..

2. keep the previous movie lists. oigula apnader kase ekhon aar appealing na holeo notunder inspire korar jonno valo.... did those not touch you... make sure they write the one page reports on all the movies....

3. core values should be communicated by students as well as teachers - kabir should tell about those, otherwise they will not understand the seriousness of the matters.. these should be well explained to the newcomers in a way i explained to you..

4. there should be detailed talk about the career scopes in and outside of the country by a teacher, preferably sakib bhai. better if you can request suzan for a session.. so that the talks about careers has lights from industry and academia... deshe-bideshe kemon chakri bakri pawa jai sheita bolte hobe, tar jonno kivabe nijeder prepare kora dorkar sheita o valo kore bolte hobe.. sakib bhai should tell in detail about the scope of a foreign MS and PhD.. what to do and how to plan to get prepared...

5. alada session kore fun korar kono dorkar nai.. ami jokhon eita conduct kortam tokhon kono fun session thaktona oitate... but shobkichtei ekta funny touch thakto... onno kajer majhe majhe fun kortam... jate bishoita boring na hie jai... dont give students any impression like IIT is a funny plae... let them know its a serious place they are in.. but they can make the life enjoyable over here... tell them about patience and focus... and the bright future that they can secure...

6. 1st and 2nd batch students can give talks about their life at iit... about the stress, pain and success, and fun of course... amar kotha o bolte paren 2012 te chole ashbo abar kan tanar jonno...

7. introduce students with the web resources yahoogroups of iit, forum, facebook group... they should be members of all these as soon as possible...

8. my proposal is Alim, Tabassum, Muttakin, Mustafiz(2b) should tell about ther experiences at IIT. aro koijon hote parto (like toma, tuffatur), but iccha korei eder nam bollam..

Asif can have a small "ASIF" style presentation

9. kabir should be the central guy... first batch guiz, tell kabir about what i did in the sessions and what was the idea...

10. the english session can be conducted by students... 3 volunteers can help for this... but those volunteers should handle the session showing proper respect to the newcomers... let them know what the status of their english is... tell them mistakes are okay... but they can work out this.. dont make dun if some of them make a mistake that looks funny to you... make sure that they dont feel humiliated for with their mistakes...
