converting video to audio
many of us usually download streaming video from you-tube and other sites..........but it takes a lots of space........
so often we try to convert the video in mp3 format.........
but this converting cant be done with the normal "Sound Converter" in ubuntu..............
for this purpose we need to download a little software (6 mb) called ffmpeg
download command
that's all.................you will get the favorite audio format song..........

Re: converting video to audio
Nice post
I noticed that ogg is better format compared to mp3.
Anyway,
I think ffmpeg does not work all the time, especially in some cases when it does not know what the internal video/audio codecs are used in the input file.
In that case, you have to manually input them, which is difficult because you don't know the codecs used in the first place.
Here is another way,
sudo apt-get install soundconverter gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
These two won't take much place at all. These two take roughly 400KB in total, excluding the dependencies.
When you do, just use sound converter from the application menu ^_^

Re: converting video to audio
For these purpose i simply use an application called Mobile Media Converter. It is capable of converting videos and audios. It can also convert videos to audios. It can also do some useful thing work like trimming. The GUI is very much simple that no need to explain that. You will not find it in the repository. You have to download it from here.

that reminds me, I remember someone telling in this forum that we should mention the file size when we give a link.
It makes it easier to take decisions on whether to visit the link or not.
What the.. it is 9MB
Maybe they have all the codecs installed within >.>
Still, when it comes something as simple as video>audio conversion, I prefer soundconverter, which is from the repo
