Oracle SQL Developer for linux
we all have been using Toad client for oracle 10g XE. however, for linux, maybe there is nothing like that.... so why not have a look at the official oracle GUI client for oracle database 10g XE.... and it is sqldeveloper which is official oracle IDE, built by those same oracle guys who developer oracle 10g, 11g and so forth.
visit this link to download....
ORACLE SQLDEVELOPER
this is an .rpm installer file, first download it and then in order to easy installation, convert it to a .deb installation file. for this, first download alien rpm to deb converter, by running this command in terminal, "user@ubuntu-$sudo apt-get install alien"
then copy the rpm installer in the home folder, rename the file as "sqldeveloper.rpm" and then run this command in terminal "user@ubuntu-$sudo alien -d sqldeveloper.rpm".
after that u will see that an .deb installer file is created in the home directory. install it now by double clicking.
then go to /opt/sqldeveloper and double click sqldeveloper.sh, select run in terminal and then type the jdk path, it should be "/usr/local/jdk1.6.0_21" and there u go .....
from the next time u may also start this by this command in terminal too....
"user@ubuntu-$cd usr/local/sqldeveloper/"
"user@ubuntu-$sqldeveloper.sh"
btw... i am not good at giving tutorial, so for the sake of better understanding, my ubuntu geek friends should make it better for comprehensiveness....

Re: Oracle SQL Developer for linux
Actually, there is a software which is similar to Toad.
only... it is very light.
How much light?
its size is around4/6 MB :p edit: actually 20MB
its name is squirrel SQL.
And this software can be used to connect with.. well.. derby. mySQL, SQl, Oracle.. almost all databases!
but nice to know about this software how about you upload the debian file here so we can directly use it?

Because i have a slow and limited internet and downloading the small resource thingy best suits me :p
Besides, when I used Squirell, I was not thinking about something with less resource. But something other than an Oracle client. I tried tora at first, which has the same size as toad i think, and similar working method. But I failed to use it... So I then decided to use Squirrel.
But I don't see any debian file links here
Re: Oracle SQL Developer for linux

But can YOU guarantee that in business life, in a remote place away from your office, in case of an emergency situation, you are going to find a good capable pc?
