Change file type icons (mime types)
Hey there
Ever wished that ubuntu will show you icons for file types as you want?
I found the proper way, just for you
first of all, we need to install assogiate.
Now, before changing any settings, we need to know exactly the file type's identity by which gnome detects it.
So, lets create a file first.
Lets assume, we are going to change the icon of a *.class file.
make amit.class file, and then right click on it. go to properties.
you will see something like this:
Note the application identity. it is /application/x-java, right?
Now go to Applications>System tools> File types Editor
and on the search tab, type x-java, and you will find the needed file type
there might be two x-java, one is an application type, the other is a text/source type. but we already know it is the application type, because of that /application/x-java part
Now, double click on it. there, click on the browse button for default icon, and set an image there. Png is suggested
And you are done!!
