Dear students,


Here is the detailed syllabus for the Mid Term exam to be held on Tuesday, 22 March. Since most of you don't check your group emails regularly, I urge those who are reading this email to forward it to your forums or other networks that you may have.


Swing (and event handling)

Features of swing, its differences from AWT; Components and Containers; Basic knowledge on how to create and manipulate common containers and components: JFrame, JPanel, JButton, JRadioButton, JComboBox, JSpinner, JTextField, JMenu etc.; Common Layouts; Basics of Event Handling; Methods of some common Event Listeners: ActionListener, MouseListener, MouseMotionListener, KeyListener etc.



Applet

Basics features and advantages of applets; Basic methods of an Applet: init(), start(), stop(), destroy(), their task and calling sequence; Understanding the paint(), repaint() and update() methods; Basic methods of the Graphics class; Running an applet in browsers using HTML;



Collection framework

Structure of the collection framework: the interfaces, abstract classes and concrete subclasses; Creation and manipulation of Sets, List, Maps etc., traversing them through Iterators; Understanding the characteristics of the underlying data structures: arrays, linked lists, hash tables, trees etc.
