Operating Systems Syllabus

Operating System structures:
Components of an OS (Process management, memory management etc), Services provided by OS, System calls, Kernel.

Process Management
Basic concepts of process: Process States, Process Control Blocks, Processes in memory; Process scheduling and schedulers; Multi-tasking and Context switch; Process creation using fork() and exec().

Threads
Basic concept of threads, benefits of using threads.

CPU Scheduling
Basic concepts and scheduling criteria; FCFS, SJF, Priority and Round-Robin algorithms, their pros and cons, and maths related to CPU scheduling; Multi-level Queue scheduling; Basic working principle of CPU scheduling in Linux, Solaris and Windows.

Process Synchronization
Race conditions; Critical Section Problem and its solutions; Semaphores: Semaphore-based solutions to classic synchronization problems (Producer-Consumer, Readers-Writers, Dining Philosopher, Sleeping Barber etc.)

Deadlocks
Necessary conditions for deadlocks and means of handling them; Techniques of Deadlock detection, prevention, avoidance and Recovery; Resource Allocation Graphs; Banker’s algorithm and maths related to the algorithm.

Memory Management
Address binding; Logical vs Physical address space; Swapping; Features, advantages and disadvantages of different memory allocation schemes: Contiguous, Paging and Segmentation; Address translation in Paging and Segmentation systems; TLB; Multi-level, Hashed and Inverted Page tables; Internal and External fragmentation; Intel’s address translation with both segmentation and paging.

Virtual memory
Basic concepts and necessity of Virtual memory; Demand paging; Page faults and steps to handle them; Page replacement techniques: FIFO, LRU, Optimal: Their pros and cons, maths relatyed to page replacement; implantation of LRU; Other considerations for optimizing efficiency of demand paging.

File system
Basic concepts of file: attributes of files; Operations on files like open(), close(), read(), write() etc.

File system implementation
Overview: File Control Blocks, File Tables; Partition and Mounting; VFS; File allocation methods: contiguous, linked, indexed; Basic principle of NTFS and UFS; Unix inodes and inode pointer structure.

I/O systems
Memory-mapped I/O; Polling and Interrupts; Interrupt-driven I/O; Interrupt handling; Direct Memory Access; Blocking and Non-blocking I/O.

Disk Scheduling
Various disk scheduling algorithms: FCFS, SSTF, SCAN, C-SCAN, LOOK, C-LOOK, their pros and cons, and maths related to them.

I am sorry because I can't find other subject Syllabus from other teachers such as Shafiul sir, Mustaq Sir, Tahrima Madum,So Please anybody help me to collect this.

আর basic concepts এর ভেতরে কি পড়ে?
সংগা? নাকি সংগা + সংগার সাথে সব কিছু?

১ঘন্টার ভেতরে পর পর দুইবার উত্তর না দিয়ে আগের উত্তর সম্পাদনা করা মনে হয় একটু ভাল পদ্ধতি।

যেমনটা আমি করেছি।

সবই তো দিয়ে দিছে
পুরা 4th semester জুড়েই যা ছিল, কিছুই তো বাদ নাই

Dear Jobaer,
Please write in Bengali letter when you are using English letter to write something Bengali. You can use Avro, Bijoy etc. to write in Bangla. If you don't have any software for Benglai writing, then you can use forum's "ত্রিভুজ প্যাড". Just look right side of this screen. You can find the orange and white coloured button "ত্রিভুজ প্যাড". Just click on it and you can write in Bangla there. Then copy your text from there and paste it in forum
Its a violation of forum's standard if you use this type of sms and Bangla language with English letter.



...and see, I am getting negative vote to not tell you anything seeing the violated standard

আচ্ছা, সবাই স্লাইড স্লাইড বলে চিলাচ্ছে।
বই এর বাইরে থেকে আসলে কোন স্লাইড ছিলো? আমার তো যদ্দূর মনে পরে আমার-রায়হান এবং আলিম-(কে জানি?) এর ছাড়া আর কারোরই স্লাইড বই এর বাইরে থেকে হয় নাই।

তাহলে যারা স্লাইড বানিয়েছে, তাদেরটা বই+ইন্টারনেটের উপরে ভিত্তি করে।
স্যার বই থেকে সব দিয়ে দিয়েছে। কাজেই বই ভিত্তিক স্লাইডের ক্ষেত্রে তো কেবল বই পড়লেই চলবে।

আর বাকি থাকে Inode & NTFS. এটা স্লাইড থেকে পড়লে হয়।

এখন স্যারকে জিজ্ঞাসা করার মানে হলো স্যার যদি এক্সট্রা স্লাইডের কথা বলতে ভূলে যায়, তাহলে আবার মনে করিয়ে দিয়ে নিজের পায়ে কুড়াল মারা


কেউ বুঝায়ে বলতে পারবে স্লাইড কেন খুঁজা হচ্ছে?

I guess total syllabus is from book
I just checked all those
some reason are there:
1. sir didn't collect those slides
2. the exams we already gave, there was nothing from the slides.
so..... I guess we can avoid it
