If you use antivirus like avast it checks for the malicious software and removes the exe file . But sometimes if the malicious is strong the avast antivrus removes some os files also and windows gets corrupt. Other antivirus softwares like norton,Bitdefender works fine in removing malicious softwares.

you cannot depend on windows virus protection itself you have to update frequently .
