Ubuntu Packages Website
You can get debian forms of any software you might want to install using software manager
You can use the debian files to install the files in a pc which doesn't have internet!
go here
http://packages.ubuntu.com/

nice post amit.....
but there are some problems. dependency is a very important thing, when you are installing an application. a package must satisfy all it's dependencies before you install it. otherwise you may brake your system..........

Re: Ubuntu Packages Website
Yeah, and when dependencies are not satisfied, it can't be installed anyway.
however, when you go to a software's download page, it also gives out details about required packages.
For example, to install ntfs-config, the required package is "menu". which can be downloaded separately.
if someone tries to install ntfs-config without menu, it will deny the process by saying menu is not installed :p
but then again, what you said is true. the manual process might break down the integrity of system.

Re: Ubuntu Packages Website
Well,a nice repository for downloading debian packages.
But can you tell me where can I find the packages installed in my pc?
I have some packages installed and want to help someone(who don't have internet) with those debian packages.
You can help me with some tiny commands.
edit: Do I have to know the package names to locate it?

And glad to see you reply in a hurry. Now tell the way please.
Re: Ubuntu Packages Website
I replied about it already in his topic.

Edit:
And btw. You have 9.04, and Habib has 10.10.
Incompatible. Unless you use the second method I mentioned in that topic.
The second option is independent of platforms and OS and anything you can think about.

Is it like,if I send him any package from Ubuntu 9.04 then it won't work in his 10.10?Amit vai wrote:

I'm not sure if that was intended for me.The second option is independent of platforms and OS and anything you can think about.
If so,then I've to first download keryx(17 MB) which I don't want to do due to fixed internet package.
Re: Ubuntu Packages Website
Probably won't work. check the versions of the package he wants and the versions you have. You can still give it a try.
Re: Ubuntu Packages Website
BTW you haven't answered it yet. Where are all the debian packages saved in Ubuntu(9.04)?
